Genealogical Research at the Heritage Library

Genealogists from across the country come to the Heritage Library for its breadth of material and the knowledgeable help they receive from our volunteers. They find material here that is not readily available from other sources.

The library is an affiliate of the Family History Library operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Here you can order microfilm and microfiche maintained by the Family History Library in Salt Lake City.

Collections include census data pertaining to Hilton Head from both the Federal government and the useful census data collected by the State of South Carolina immediately following the Civil War, histories of the plantations that existed on the island, indexes of maps, land certificates and indentures, and the collection of material on Colored Troops from pension and other records.

Our facilities include computers with access to subscription sites ancestry.com, fold3.com, HeritageQuest online, and americanancestors.com.  Also available are printers and microfilm readers.
